the 12th day of Christmas...

We usually leave our Christmas tree up until after January 6 (the 12th day of Christmas... the Feast of the Epiphany for you Catholics out there). Anyway, Carrie left the tree plugged in last night before she went to bed, so when I came up, it looked so cool that I wanted to show her... so I dragged her out of bed and we went downstairs and looked. It was way cool... see?

OK, so the flash makes the room look lit up... but the tree's pretty in the dark, I promise. Carrie even took a picture without the flash:

I don't like that picture as much, because you can't see the ornaments as well... but it does show off how pretty the lights are. Notice that our tree has its own "mini-me" right next to it as well.

Waiting for Tuesday...

Any self-respecting Mac geek knows that nobody is buying any new hardware this weekend, and for good reason... Macworld San Francisco is this coming week, and the rumor sites are all buzzing with the odds of Apple coming in ahead of schedule with the new Intel-based Macs.

Considering that my Powerbook (ok, the State's Powerbook, but that's a minor detail) is two years old now, I'm jonesing for what the rags are calling the iBook thin or iBook nano... a 13" widescreen Mac notebook would just plain kick butt.

So, Steve, if you're reading this... please make sure you have some ready to ship, because I and probably a million other folks out there are ready to play with one.

Happy New Year!

I'd like to wish everyone a happy and healthy 2006. 2005 will be a tough act to follow, with a number of acomplishments in the family, not in any particular order:

  • Chris got through another year at IMSA in one piece
  • Meggie came into the world... and that's a story in itself
  • Carrie decided to stay at home with Meggie
  • Chris finished his high school coaching career in style with a wonderful season and a great group of girls
  • Chris was elected Vice Chair of the newly-renamed Illinois Masters Swimming Association, and also took over technical direction duties with the organization (now he just needs to find more time to work on their website)

Drupal Gallery Module, anyone?

If anyone knows better than I do how to hack the Drupal gallery module (or Gallery's themes) to make the fonts (much less the whole embedding of the gallery) not look like doggie yum-yums, please email me.

Christmas cheer, among other things...

Christmas was interesting today. Carrie's whole family was here, and with it came the associated order out of chaos that comes with the big family Christmas.... but it was fun nonetheless.

Notable loot included gift certificates to the Apple Store and BestBuy... most likely set to complement Carrie's surprise give of a 2GB black iPod nano (yee-haw... I have an iPod!) I also got some pants that fit (it's been a while since I had pants that fit). Last Christmas I was complaining because nothing fit... then I lost 35 pounds, and now I still don't have any pants that fit (save the 3 pairs that I got from my parents... thanks mom and dad).
